Having being bullied and harrassed for weeks by Alex (including at work when I was meant to be call listening for Menoths sake Rolling Eyes ) I've finally started to read the Warmachine rulebook.

And its brilliant. I love the humour, I love the layout and I love the characters.

So whats my next step? I've games for the next two weeks and Curby mentioned pressganging us into scenery painting soon cheers

What stuff does the club have that I could borrow? and what does everyone else play?

I'm a Space Wolf/Brettonnian so which Army do you think would suit me?

What websites are good for information and background?

I personally think Cygnar might suit though I may be biased in that respect. You have a knight theme going on in your current armies though and both Cygnar and menoth let you field lots of knights so then it just comes down if you want lightening or fire knights.

battle college is usually quite good for descriptions of units and what they do

In a nutshell IMHO
as Andy said, Cygnar have a sort of knight theme going on, they love electricity and their guns but aren't afraid of mixing it up toe-to-toe

Protectorate of Menoth really, really like fire! I suppose its a bit like lego really; they perform better when there's a good degree of synergy in the army. And as Andy said, they've got something going on with knights in their army

Khador are loosely based on the Soviets, and they have the slowest but most heavily armed and armoured fighting force. Not to say they can't shift when they need to but they're not known for excessive speed or agility. They live in a very cold place...

Cryx are mostly an undead (pirate) faction with some living in it, they're speedy and hit hard, a real glass cannon faction with a like of de-buffing abilities and acid based attacks. Cryx prefer mixing it up in melee and few of their units are that good at shooting but they tend to be pretty nasty shooting attacks

and the new comers, Retribution (the Elves of Warmachine) are some sort of Frankenstein monster faction which reminds me of something that might happen if you were to cross Cryx with Cygnar: agile and yet can really hurt things both with shooting and melee. Their warjacks are (as you'll probably see) clearly modeled on the Apple ipod Laughing

I've read a bit further in the book and checked out the website.

Cygnar - I like the models and the characters, but they seem a bit arrogant

Protectorate - I like the models and the background, but the characters seem dull

Cryx - Oh come on Undead Necrons

Khador - I like some of the chaaracters and the models are pretty cool, but no light jacks

Retribution - Hey who let the eldar in

Caine from the older fluff came across as more abrasive then Chuck Norris's stubble but i'm sure he's a nice guy underneath his unshaven blink teleporting exterior. Poor Haley is just screwed up in the head a bit because when she was 5 years old Cryx came a-(violently)knocking and kidnapped her twin sister and as she matured, they turned her into an evil twisted homicidal warwitch with an obsession with finding and killing Haley and probably pushes old people down flights stairs for fun in her spare time

when you say dull, do you mean, the characters themselves are lacking? Feora's life is probably never dull- things in her everyday life probably combust around her by accident, the Harbinger is unique that she's got to be the youngest warcaster (i think she's only a teenager) and lighter then a malteser (hence why she needs to be held down by chains bore by acolytes)

heh, i thought in a fleeting moment 'Necrons' when i started Cryx, but as you get into them, they don't seem quite so similar in so much Cryx has hot goth babes with bladed whips and fat mad scientists on mechanical legs welding explosives and other metal bits to corpses and marching them towards the enemy line as (un)living bombs, in addition to various assortment of spectres and armour clad Bane knights that may follow up behind the Necrotechs' creations

Khador doesn't believe in light jacks, because 'small' just doesn't cut it for Khador, they ain't satisfied with a warjack's construction till its armour plates alone weigh as much as a Cygnar light jack. They like their steak meals large and their weapons larger; light jacks are just too puny for a faction of big burly men living in a place where 2 degrees celsius (peak) is a hot summer

And yes, the Retribution do fill the Eldar niche in Warmachine, can't really escape that fact, though if you ask me; their myrmidons should be unofficially known as ipodidons

If you REALLY can't decide which faction you like best, you can look up HORDES on the privateer press website. Hordes is currently going through its MkII update so there isn't a MkII book for it just yet. I won't go through the factions as i may accidentally swerve you from Warmachine, but they are both great games, which can be played against each other

But i can't resist saying that the Trollbloods have Scottish vibes coming from them, must the tartan and pipe bagger musician attachment...

A very unconventional way of describing the quirks of the WM factions (especially banking on Cryx Necrotechs and their supposed insanity turning corpses into bombs and building (and maintaining) Helljacks, but what'che gonna do?)
