Flames of War Empty

Oops, I went shopping...

Flames of War is a second Wolrd War game using 15mm figures (GW are 28mm). I got hold of the first main rulebook which comes with 3 American, and 2 German tanks. The idea of the game is that you recreate real units from either early, mid or late periods of the war.

There are many different forces, mainly: British, American, Italien, German, Russian. But after that there are the: Finnish, Hungarian, Romanian, Australian, Canadian, etc. Even teh SAS are in there!

There are many informative books on different campaigns and units such as the British 8th Army Vs Rommel's Afrikacorps in North Africa, through to the D-Day assault, including a seperate book for the landing on 'Bloody' Omaha where the Americans encountered massice resistance and had to scale cliffs.

Hope that whets some of your appetites. The game seems to have me hooked before I have even started to play.

Hey guys, just to let you know theres a few people over at the RGMB in Chester who play Flames Of War fairly regularly, mostly in the Mid-war stage (although theres always someone who wants to escalate it to late war!).

Also there was mention a while ago of some kind of club challenge in 40k and warmachine form, is there still interest?

(By the way I'm Rick; one of the committee members of the RGMB and a player of many games under the sun, including FOW, 40k and warhammer, but excluding warmachine!)

I take it SAS is only mid to late war as it wasn't formed until 1941. Before that it was the SOE (Special Operatiosn Executive)

!941 - 1943/44 is mid war, I am pretty sure. Yes you can get the SAS, they are almost an army on their own.

give The Gaming Crypt in Altrincham a call. 0161 929 9919

They stock it, and are very helpful.

the SOE I think did exist throught the war, but were individuals, kinda like spys ( I think) I have only read a few novels on them.

Tuesday evenings is also our day of choice (just like its Warrington Warlords and Liverpool Gaming Guilds; must be something sinister about it somewhere....). Another evening (Thursdays?) or probably a weekend would be better so we didn't end up emptying one of our respective clubs on the Tuesday. Our current venue could be hired for around £50-60 on a Saturday or Sunday so we'd have to find a few people to spread the cost, alternatively we could make the first trip over to Winsford?

Also what games are most popular over there? We've a combination of Warmachine and 40k at the moment, with some FOW (and Inquisitor but you can't really play a tournament with that!)

Couldn't tell you where the SAS fit in, I favour the Wehrmacht, and the opposition varies between Italian infantry, Finnish infantry, British Motor Companies or Soviet Strelkovy infantry battalions, all of which favour massed infantry or massed vehicles rather than small elite troops (which are easily killed).
